Mid Missouri's Premier R/C Flying Event It
is with regret that we will not be able to hold the 2005 Extravaganza
event and unless a suitable location can be acquired or Government
decisions can be changed, the future of the Extravaganza looks doomed. We
attempted to obtain other locations within a reasonable distance of
Jefferson City, but none were available or the sites that could
potentially work weren't willing to support our needs to host an event of
this magnitude. Therefore in 2005 and beyond JCRC is now going to
concentrate on making our Float Fly event one of our main attractions for
the year. We will hold this year's Float Fly on Saturday, July 23rd and
hope all the pilots who attended our past events will be able to support this event
as well.
Our deepest apologies to all who didn't receive the word that the
2004 R/C Show-Me Extravaganza had been cancelled. We received
reports that some people drove over 500 miles to attend an
event that didn't take place. PLEASE bear in mind that the event was
NOT cancelled by either of the hosting Clubs, but by Federal
Government Bureaucracy and their red tape!
As the joke goes; "We're from the Government, we're here to
help..."
Despite the fact that the event has been successful and safe
for nearly 15 years, the 'Powers That Be' decided that we were a
'non-compliant event' and a threat to public safety, at which point there was nothing that the
Airport Managers or the two R/C Clubs could do.
The process to get the event approved was long and tiresome for
Contest Director, Brian Nutt, and even though he agreed to all of
their demands, and all preparations were in place to hold the event,
the F.A.A. still decided that the event would be in violation of a
recently updated Federal regulation and if the event were held at
the Jefferson City Airport then the airport could forfeit Federal
funding.
Therefore, all of us should - collectively - be able to sleep easier,
because we're all safer - thanks F.A.A! NOT! Osama scores
another hit!

to as many pilots and friends of the event as possible about the problems encountered with the F.A.A. and the Jefferson City
Airport.
The theme for the 2003 Show Me R/C Extravaganza was "100th Anniversary of Flight"
and it was dedicated to the memory of the crew of Space Shuttle Mission
STS-107.
The 2003 event was held on May 16 - 18. We hosted a 3
day event! The show times were even extended longer than the previous years.
We flew till dusk on Friday, May 16th.
Opening again at 9:00 a.m. on
Saturday the
17th and flying till dusk. Then opening again at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday the 18th and
we wrapped up a great weekend of open flying at 3:00 p.m.
After all that we hosted a radio control combat event for another
hour.
What a show! We hope that our new yet-to-be-determined location will allow each
subsequent year to be even more exciting, with longer flying times and
better accommodations. Perhaps there will even be more support from the manufactures and
distributors. A special thanks goes out to all of you, both pilots and
vendors, for making this event what it is today. We consistently registered
over 100 pilots every year. We
will continue to do our best to make the Show Me R/C Extravaganza the
premier show in Missouri!
If you have attended our show or donated to it in the past, we look
forward to your support and seeing you again in the coming years. Thanks! |
