2008 JCRC Club News: May 13, 2008

  • The next JCRC Meeting will be held today; Tuesday, June 10th, at the JCRC Miller R/C Flying Field in Jefferson City at 7 P.M. Please mark your calendars now.

  • To our visitors who may be looking for information about the 2008 JCRC Float Fly. We have made the decision to postpone the event until 2009 due to scheduling conflicts. We are planning way ahead for our 2009 event and we're going to do our best to make it our biggest ever. Check back again later. Don't forget about the many other Float Fly events being held across Missouri and Kansas this year. Very soon we will have a complete listing of them available by clicking here.

  • The 2008 YMCA - JCRC Indoor Flying season is over. We hope those who participated had a great time. We are grateful for all who supported the events by attending and helping with the setup and break down of each event. We are extremely grateful to the YMCA for allowing us to use their facility for us to have such a great amount of fun. During your spare minutes in Summer when it's too nasty or too windy to fly, be sure to get your next Indoor R/C airplane ready for the 2008 Winter session of Indoor flying! If anyone has other photos of the Winter 2007 / 2008 Indoor Flying sessions and you'd like to share those photos with the world, please contact us.

  • The 2008 Toledo Exposition was one of the best ever! It is a one-of-a-kind event that anyone with an interest in R/C should attend. There are hundreds of vendors, manufacturers, swap meet items, R/C Celebrities and great friends. It is a long drive from Jefferson City to Toledo, but we have never regretted going once we get there. You need some good walking shoes to cover the Conference Room of the Seagate Center and you go home tired, but glad you went. Here are some pictures taken of the Toledo Show provided by Shaun Zimmerman. Among central Missouri R/C Pilots that attended were Steve Bradford, Jack Slaughter, Roy Seals, Don Maddux, Bryan Zang, plus Stan Zimmerman from Indiana and Tom Nelson of Tennessee, both great friends of JCRC. We'll have a more thorough report soon, but for now, enjoy the pictures. Click here to see the first of three full pages of photos.

  • If you want to find out the latest news about JCRC, then this News page is the first place you should come to visit. However, JCRC is participating in an on-line forum where more up-to-the-day news, ideas, gossip, and impromptu events can be viewed. It's very easy to use and all who are interested are encouraged to register and add your very own comments. Click here to visit the JCRC Forum of the Maximum R/C website that is sponsored by the Mid-Mo Hobby Shop, thanks John!!

2008 JCRC: R/C Flight Training

Interested in R/C flying? Did you recently purchase or are you thinking about purchasing an R/C airplane for yourself or as a gift and want help learning how to fly it? You've come to the right place, we can help! "Trainer Nights" are about to start again for the 2008 season. Let us know if you are interested in taking lessons by contacting us at info@jcrc.com. Training nights are dependent upon the weather, including high winds. Yes, experienced flyers can fly in the wind, but winds over 10 mph make it difficult for beginners to learn, so there are times when it may be a beautiful, yet windy day, when lessons may not be given at all. Again you may contact JCRC at info@jcrc.com for further information.

We'd like for everyone to experience the thrill of flying an R/C airplane first-hand. We offer your first three Flying Lessons for free, even before you join the Club! R/C Flying Lessons are always free to members and even after you learn to fly, your friends in the Club will almost always have something to say about the way you fly!

If you're interested in purchasing an R/C airplane, either new or used, please feel free to talk to us first or even after you've shopped around. We can help you finalize your decision by offering suggestions on what to buy to help insure that you have a successful experience (as well as what to avoid). By choosing the right equipment the first time around, hopefully we can save you a lot of money as well as saving you lots of frustration.

Additionally, we have posted a form that most of our instructors use as they teach students about R/C flying and airplanes. Look it over to get a better idea of what it takes to successfully fly an R/C airplane by yourself, it's not always as easy as it may appear.

Stop by and visit us anytime you find us out flying at the field, especially on the weekends when the weather is nice or contact us at info@jcrc.com for further information.

2008 JCRC: Flying Field Flight Zones

We know, without a doubt, that all active JCRC Members do all they can to avoid flying over the new houses that border the Miller Park boundaries, yet one or two homeowners still claim that someone is trespassing over their land with R/C airplanes (yes, flying over their houses without permission is considered trespassing in Missouri, the same as if a neighborhood kid ran through your own back yard without your permission.) We don't know who is doing it (yet), but someone is driving around the gate and flying without permission. They are risking the flying privileges of all of us who avoid breaking the rules. Whoever is flying past the park boundary must stop doing it immediately! Please review the Flying Zone Area at the JCRC / Miller Flying Field. Even though these satellite photos were taken in 2003 prior to the completion of the homes, you can clearly see where we can and cannot fly. Again, we ask that all pilots who fly at the JCRC Flying Field review these photos. As with all photos on our website, click on the  thumbnails to view larger versions.

Locked out? Yes, some of the information on our website wasn't meant for everyone in the world to see, so it is located in a special secure area. We will gladly provide the User ID & Password to any current JCRC member who has forgotten or requests it.

JCRC Feature Articles:

  • Safety at the Flight Site - Click here to read important information to keep in mind as the Flying Season comes into full swing and see some of the things you should take with you each time you go out to the Miller Memorial Flying Site.

  • Enough Is Enough - Click here to read an editorial by Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association President, Phil Boyer, as he struck a nerve in October 2006 with his online editorial, "Enough is enough." Even though this applies to full-scale, general aviation, we thought it would be of interest to R/C Pilots as well. Boyer took on Chicago Mayor, Richard Daley, as well as other politicians and self-appointed safety "experts" for using the private airplane accident in New York City to call for more restrictions on general aviation.

  • One Second in a Reno P-51 - Click here to read an interesting article provided by the EAA Warbirds Newsgroup about what happens in a single second inside a P-51 flying in an unlimited air race.
  • Choosing the right Color Scheme - Click here to read an article about Color Theory for Model Airplanes that could help you maintain better flight orientation or learn to fly your R/C airplane sooner. With the building season upon us you may want to factor in these suggestions when deciding how you will cover your new creation.

  • PPM vs. PCM - Click here to read an article about a topic that is debated over-and-over again; Which is better? A PPM or PCM radio / receiver combination?

  • For Flight Instructors - Click here to read an article written for R/C Pilots who are at a point where they can start to help others learn to fly R/C airplanes.

JCRC Feature Photo: Corsair

Once again Tom Copeland has come up with another beauty. This time he says that he "massaged" a Hangar 9 Corsair by adding some detailing, Monokote and added features to make it a really nice looking Warbird. It is powered by a Saito 1.00. It has pneumatic retracts and is fashioned after Tommy Blackburn's "Big Hog" that fought in the Pacific during WWII. Posted 10/25/07. Photo by Tom Copeland

From time-to-time we will feature a special photo in this section. Have you completed a new airplane? Do you have an interesting photo of your plane? Do you have an interesting photo of someone else's plane? Share it with us!! Send it to info@jcrc.com
