2008 JCRC: New Year's Day Fly-in! We scheduled our fly-no-matter-what-the-weather flying event on January 1st and then realized that we aren't as stupid as we may seem. It was just too windy and bitterly cold to fly - even for an event that you're supposed to fly no-matter-what-the-weather. We heard that two or three guys actually drove past the field which in itself was fairly brave, so we must now admit that we won't fly no-matter-what-the-weather... |

JCRC:
YMCA Indoor Flying!
The 2008 YMCA - JCRC Indoor Flying season. We hope those who participated had a great time. We are grateful for all who supported the events by attending and helping with the setup and break down of each event. We are extremely grateful to the YMCA for allowing us to use their facility for us to have such a great amount of fun. During your spare minutes in Summer when it's too nasty or too windy to fly, be sure to get your next Indoor R/C airplane ready for the 2008 Winter session of Indoor flying! The MMRCA website features many wonderful photos of the JCRC Indoor Fly-in events, check them out! |

Toledo:
Exposition!
The 2008 Toledo Exposition was one of the best ever! It is a one-of-a-kind event that anyone with an interest in R/C should attend. There are hundreds of vendors, manufacturers, swap meet items, R/C Celebrities and great friends. It is a long drive from Jefferson City to Toledo, but we have never regretted going once we get there. You need some good walking shoes to cover the Conference Room of the Seagate Center and you go home tired, but glad you went. Here are some pictures taken of the Toledo Show provided by Shaun Zimmerman. Among central Missouri R/C Pilots that attended were Steve Bradford, Jack Slaughter, Roy Seals, Don Maddux, Bryan Zang, plus Stan Zimmerman from Indiana and Tom Nelson of Tennessee, both great friends of JCRC. Salute to Veteran's Memorial Day Airshow!
The 2008 Memorial Day Airshow held in Columbia, Missouri, on May 24, 2008, was attended by thousands of people. Among the crowd was at least one of our own; John Dussold and his new Canon digital camera! He captured these great photos of the aerial action and shared them with us. Thanks for the contribution John!. Click here to view the photos. |

2008
JCRC: Flying at the MMRCA site in ColumbiaJCRC @ Columbia was a beautiful weekend between flying events where several JCRC Members went up to the MMRCA Flying Field on Saturday, June 21st to enjoy a leisurely day of flying in near perfect weather. Steve Bradford took advantage of the opportunity to give the trailer it's first run down the highway, as well as test fly his Sig Rascal 110, which wasn't without moments of excitement, gratefully Kent Imhoff had the new Saito 1.82 twin running perfectly. Plus Steve continued to practice flying his Giant Super Sportster. Stacy Gillmore arrived with his recently modified Sig Something Extra that is once again glow-powered, as well as his Funtana X. Rick Poire brought his Dragon Lady and Giant Sundancer. Jim Crago brought his helicopters. The sky was a thing of beauty to watch all day as a wide variety of clouds passed over. Not to mention Jack Slaughter and all of the great Columbia MMRCA Members that were there, they even served up great tasting hamburgers! Kenny Johnson brought his LT-40 and Styker. Shaun Zimmerman also took his Sig Rascal 110 and LT-40. Click here to view the photos. |

MMRCA: Summer SizzlerMMRCA's Summer Sizzler was not as hot as it usually gets, but it was certainly windy. All of the JCRC Members that attended the event on Saturday, June 28th had a great time. The food was wonderful with giant hotdogs and BBQ beef. Lots of flying and only a few mishaps against a beautiful sky that changed throughout the entire day. We have three pages of photos of lots of beautiful airplanes and friends for you to enjoy! Click here to view them. |

JCRC: American Barnstormer Tour & Aluminum
Overcast B-17 Tour![]() On June 29th & 30th the fascinating American Barnstormers Tour stopped by the Jefferson City Airport to the enjoyment of aviation enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to fly in vintage "Golden Age of Aviation" open-cockpit biplanes for the very reasonable price of $50 per passenger. Their tour included 4 states and 9 cities. They used 5 airplanes to give rides and there were several other immaculately restored airplanes on display which also flew in the daily "Parade of Flight." Many JCRC Members took advantage of the chance to fly in these beautiful airplanes and three of our photographers documented the occasion. Additionally, on July 8th, Jefferson City was visited by the EAA's "Aluminum Overcast" B-17G Flying Fortress. It cost significantly more to fly in the B-17 ($425), but they offered ground tours that some of our members enjoyed. Click here to view the photos from these events. Please note it may take a few minutes for this to load, be patient, there are over 80 photos. You can also right-click and zoom in on the photos if you want a closer look at something. The list of members and friends that attended the tours includes John & Roseanne Dussold, Steve & Marilynn Bradford, Kent & Becky Imhoff, Stacy & Lori Gillmore as well as their sons; Tom & Matt all flew in the same New Standard D-25. Kenny Johnson, Paul Peterson, Dale Ellis (who we almost talked into going up), Shaun & Stan Zimmerman, Roy Lilly, Dan Adams, Gene Nickel, Gordon McEntire on his motorcycle and quite possibly others that we've unknowingly left off the list. |

JCRC: Flying at the MMRCA site in ColumbiaJCRC @ Columbia. Something fairly magical took place on July 5th, 2008, in Columbia, Missouri. It was a Saturday, it was not hot in July, it was not humid, the wind was right down the runway and several friends gathered to enjoy a rare perfect day of flying and friendship. Several JCRC Members are also MMRCA Members and frankly, they have a better field in which to fly, so over the Independence Day holiday weekend we gathered in Columbia to fly. In addition to a few of our Columbia friends, we were joined by Stan & Margaret Zimmerman who were on their way home to Indiana after attending a wedding in Kansas. This gave Stan & his son, Shaun, the opportunity to fly the 1938 Kloud King after refurbishing and upgrading the radio to 2.4 GHz. Stacy Gillmore enjoyed the company of his two sons; Tom & Matt (who was home from school in Chicago). Gene Nickel, Kenny Johnson, Paul Pennington, and Rick Poire were all there flying. Gordon McEntire rode up on his motorcycle to watch and our favorite "Engine Guy" Kent Imhoff was also there. The one black mark on the day happened when Rick's Dragon Lady crashed, otherwise it was...perfect! Mid-America Jumbo Squadron: Military Fly-InWhat can we say? It rained, it sucked! With anticipation, four JCRC Members set off to attend the Mid-America Jumbo Squadron Military Fly-In on July 12th, 2008. The weather was acceptable until we arrived in K.C. Steve & Marilynn Bradford were kind enough to drive us up there, pulling a trailer full of authentic "Military" airplanes, well, Steve's were authentic. The rest of us qualified under the "looks-something-like-a-warbird" clause. Shaun Zimmerman and Dale Ellis both have brothers living in Kansas City and both came out to watch...the rain. At times it seemed like it was going to quit, we'd think about getting airplanes out of the trailer, then it would start again. Ironically, only 20 miles away, the weather was nice. Just our luck. At the very beginning of the day we did get to see Larry Wells' B-17 get in a flight, then at the end of the day Stacy Gillmore flew his U.S. Army Mayhem. The highlight of the day was eating at the King's Chef Chinese restaurant on the way home, but it was also very nice to be among good friends, too bad we didn't get to fly... MMRCA: Pattern ClassicMMRCA's Jeff Buchner was the Contest Director for their Annual MMRCA Pattern Classic that was held over the weekend of July 12th & 13th, 2008. At least 15 pilots participated in the event with two airplanes flying nearly non-stop on Sunday as they were making up for some bad weather on Saturday. Here are just a few pictures that Shaun Zimmerman took of the event on Sunday. It looked like fun for those participating and, as always, there were several MMRCA volunteers that came out to assist Jeff with the tasks that needed to be done, including scoring and food. JCRC: July - Great days of Summer and
FlyingDuring the month of July 2008, there seemed to be more flying days than in the same month in years past. There were several Pilots that came out to take advantage of the extra daylight hours that are enjoyed in July in North America. Sometimes it may have been two or three guys, while at other times it seemed like the entire Club was out flying! This is a compilation of photos that were taken during the month of July 2008 by a variety of photographers including John Dussold, Stacy Gillmore, Gordon McEntire and Shaun Zimmerman. Most of the photos were taken at the JCRC Miller Memorial Flying Field, while a few others were taken at the MMRCA Flying Field in Columbia, Missouri. We hope you'll enjoy this batch of photos as they bring back memories of those great summer flying days in 2008. Click here to view the photos. |

KCRC: Warbirds Over Independence
On Saturday, September 6th, 2008, we once again made our
way to the Fleming Park Lake Jacomo Flying Field in Lees Summit to
join KCRC for their warbird event, known as Warbirds Over
Independence. Robert Slaton was the Contest Director and is also
serving as the 2008 KCRC Club President. Once again the event at
this location was threatened by rain, but we decided to take a
chance and go anyway. We lucked out for the largest portion of the
day and enjoyed some interesting cloud that were remnants of a
hurricane that had just pushed through the Gulf earlier in the week.
There were lots of nice airplanes, lots of nice door prizes and
trophies.

MMRCA: Chili Dog Fly-In MMRCA's Fall Fly-In was the perfect ending to the 2008 Fly-In season. It was held on Saturday, October 4th. They had lots of wonderful door prizes and as always the food was fabulous! They somehow arranged for another day of nearly perfect weather and we look forward to sharing the many photos we took at the event with you just as soon as we sort through and edit them. |

JCRC: Thomas Jefferson Middle SchoolOn October 17th, 2008, JCRC was asked to be a part of the Thomas Jefferson Middle School's "Outdoor Study Day." Paul Pennington, Stacy Gillmore and Shaun Zimmerman went over to the school to fly R/C Flight Demonstrations for the TJMS 7th-grade students and teachers. While Paul and Stacy ripped up the sky over the school's practice football field, Shaun gave a brief presentation and answered questions asked about our hobby. It was certainly a lot of fun to fly in front of an appreciative audience and we believe everyone involved had a good time. To read more about the event or to view the photos, click here. |
