2006 JCRC: Meeting Dates & Minutes

2006 JCRC: New Year's Day Fly-in!

We lucked out with good weather for the second New Year's Day in a row! To welcome the New Year, we held our annual; Fly - no - matter - what - the - weather - Fly-in on New Year's Day and the only weather we had to deal with was a pesky cross-wind which made for a dramatic day of interesting departures and arrivals. For the most part it was a great day with only a few scuffed wingtips and lots of good friends gathered to have a good time. Click here to view the photos.

2006 YMCA: Indoor Electric Fly-in Events

Thanks to the efforts of club member, Stacy Gillmore, one of the highlights of this year will be the YMCA Indoor Electric Fly-in sessions scheduled for the dates listed below. The Firley YMCA located on Ellis Blvd. in Jefferson City has four indoor tennis court that make up one of the nicest indoor flying venues in the entire state of Missouri! Events will be held on these dates in 2006;

2006 KCRC: Mid-America Indoor Fun Fly

JCRC members Jim Crago, Stacy Gillmore & Shaun Zimmerman attended the Kansas City Flying Circuits Mid-America Indoor Fun Fly (MIFF) during the weekend of March 18 & 19. All had a great time and learned a lot from the event, click here to view JCRC's photos of the event. Additionally, the fine folks of R/C Groups have given a lot of coverage to the event and you may view several posts and photos by clicking here. Other nice quality photos can be seen on Selfo.com. They brought some very interesting micro jets to the event.

2006 St. Louis Spirits: Swap Meet

Several JCRC members also attended the St. Louis Spirits swap meet held in the Fort Zumwalt High School gymnasium on March 25, 2006. Nearly all of us found some good deals or were able to sell some items. Everyone also noted that the event was significantly smaller than last year as were other swap meets we attended this year, which may be due to increased on-line sales, but no matter what each of us had a good time getting together and exchanging stories and seeing old friends.

2006 JCRC: The Flying Season begins

On Sunday, April 9th, several members made it out to the Miller Flying Field for one of the first great flying days of Spring 2006. Click here to view photos from that day.

2006 LORCS: Spring Cancer Society Benefit Fly-In

Click here to view the pictures from the LORCS Spring Cancer Society Benefit Fly-In that was held on Saturday, May 21, 2006, in Eldon, Missouri. It turned out to be a beautiful day with great flying for a good cause. A couple of very nice raffle prizes were given away, including a Sig Something Extra from John Arndt of Mid-Mo Hobby and a Plug-N-Play Hangar 9 Twist that was donated by Mike Anderson of HobbyTown USA in Columbia. We have received a report that over $850 was raised and donated to the Cancer Society, nice job LORCS!

2006 JCRC: 8th Annual JCRC Charity Float Fly

The 2006 8th Annual JCRC Charity Float Fly is in the history books. It  was held on Saturday, June 3rd. We feel like it was our best one yet. Twenty Six registered pilots took part in the event that was briefly featured on KRCG TV Evening News. We had perfect weather for the event. Several people worked together to make it all happen and we want each of them to know how grateful we are for making this event a success. The photos have been selected, edited and posted, we hope to have the videos and a report completed soon, so please check back. We want to thank our photographers; Chris Byrd, Stacy Gillmore & Shaun Zimmerman for all of their hard work in capturing the photos and video, we hope you enjoy the report. Be sure to show your support to the sponsors of our event, including Mike Anderson of HobbyTown USA who not only donated a $100 gift card, but also came out to represent the American Cancer Society after being up all night participating in the Relay For Life! A little over $200 was raised for the Cancer Society and that certainly wouldn't have been possible had it not been for the generosity of John Arndt of Mid-Mo Hobby Shop who made the incredible donation of a Great Planes SeaWind amphibian ARF airplane! The airplane was raffled off and won by August Dudenhoffer. Click here to view the photos, keep in mind that there are four pages of photos, so don't miss out by only looking at the first page.

2006 JCRC: JCRC June Meeting

We really lucked out on the evening of June 13th, 2006, when we held the June JCRC Meeting because the weather was nearly perfect. We briefly discussed the results of the Float Fly and thanked all of our members who helped make it a success, then we kept flying. Some had brought out airplanes in preparation for the Sig Fly-In, others flew because it was so nice outside. Whatever the reason, everyone appeared to have a good time and Chris Byrd was there with his camera, once again capturing unique and wonderful photos of our models (airplanes). We have two full pages of photos, click here to view them.

2006 JCRC: Sig Fly-In

Photographs of the Sig Fly-In held in Montezuma, Iowa on June 17-19 can be seen by clicking here. Several JCRC members were fortunate enough to attend the 2006 event. They included Stacy Gillmore, Tom Gillmore, Jim Crago, Rick Poire, Richard Poire, and Paul Pennington, plus a couple of guys from LORCS were also there. It appears that everyone had a great time despite the higher-than-wanted winds. Stacy Gillmore provided us the photos and commentary, click here to enjoy the photos.

2006 JCRC: Kansas City Warbird Fly-In

Click here to view photos of the 49th Mid-America Jumbo Squadron's Military Warbird Fly-In held on July 8th, 2006. 36 pilots attended this event with some 50+ airplanes on hand. It was a very friendly event, but certainly one of the weirdest Fly-In events that we have ever attended. There was more crashing going on at this event than at a NASCAR race! Three JCRC members attended this event and we're certain that more will return for the next one.

2006 JCRC: MMRCA Summer Sizzler

We have edited and posted pictures of the Columbia (MMRCA) Summer Sizzler Event. We noticed that more photos of the event are available for viewing via the MMRCA photo gallery as well. We certainly had a wonderful time at this event that included great food, weather and friends. Click here to see the photos we took.

2006 JCRC: Taylor Fly-In

The R/C Air Command MDA Benefit Fly-in is probably the biggest R/C gathering currently held in Missouri in the little northeastern town of Taylor. As always JCRC members look forward to this event with much anticipation. The event is held annually on Labor Day weekend from Friday through Sunday. This event features several pilots and hundreds of airplanes and helicopters of all shapes, sized and types. We have finally posted photos from this event and hope you'll enjoy seeing a cross section of the event, click here to view them.

2006 JCRC: Sedalia Fall Fly-In

The Sedalia Fly-In was one of the best of the year, as it has been in the past. Six JCRC Members attended the event and  all were grateful to have attended. Rick Poire stopped the show with his 27% Wild Hare  Edge 540. The rain was threatening, but, gratefully, never materialized. We also saw hundreds of bicyclists taking part in the MS 150 Bike Race and we suppose that our fellow member, Brian Braunschweig was among them. It took us an exorbitantly long time to get these pictures posted, but you can now click here to view the photos from the Sedalia event.

2006 JCRC: JCRC Fall Fly-In & MMRCA Heli Fly-In

Sometimes this is what happens when two events are held on the same day. Some of us started out our day at the JCRC Miller Flying Field, then in the afternoon, made our way up to the Columbia MMRCA Heli Fly-In. Even if you attended only one event, it was a great day. Lots of relaxing flying and great food. JCRC splurged for the food and Chris Wilson was kind enough to take the checkbook and go pick up Lee's Chicken for everyone who attended. Click here to view the photos.

2006 JCRC: Saturday Flying at MMRCA

Every once in a while you feel like flying in a wide-open-space where you don't have to worry about the neighbors yelling at you. So we joined MMRCA members for a nice Fall day of flying. It was a little breezy, but it was right down the runway and the sky was clear blue. Click here to view the photos.

2006 JCRC: Friday Night Football

Tom Copeland is arguably the best R/C Airplane builder in JCRC and one of the best in the Midwest! This airplane was designed to fly more in spirit than for real, but once again his talent for building is evident in this unique project that was used by the Jefferson City High School Marching Band's Color Guard. Click here to view the story and pictures.

2006 JCRC: JCRC - Boy Scout R/C Flight Demonstrations

Several JCRC Members participated in the Boy Scouts Fort Cupboard Creek Camp R/C Flying Demonstration. There were hundreds of scouts and their leaders who stopped by to watch us fly as part of the event. Several of the scouts who correctly answered an aviation-related question were given the chance to try R/C flying on a couple of Sig Kadets provided by Dr. Jim Crago & Shaun Zimmerman. We've been told over and over how much the Scouts enjoyed having us out there and we've also received a thank-you note from the organizers of the event for our participation. It was a lot of fun for us. In addition to our own photos which you can see by clicking here, the Boy Scouts have also posted their pictures and mixed them in among other photos of the event, you can view them by clicking here.

2006 JCRC: Thanksgiving Weekend Flying

A four-day weekend with nice Autumn weather meant that we weren't going to sit around and watch football! We went outside to take advantage of one of the last descent flying days of 2006. We started off at our own field and eventually made our way up to Columbia for another full day of flying. It was breezy, but we knew we'd better use them while we could. Click here to see the photos and read about the experience.
