| One of the last good flying sessions of 2006 was during the
Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. We had a couple of firsts among regular
flights that were memorable. Kent Imhoff brought out and flew his new
Sig Kadet Senior for the first time. It went perfectly and was a joy to
fly. It has a unique modification to the back that Kent made up of open
framework which really looks good. It didn't affect the flying
performance in any way. Additionally Steve Bradford, along with his son,
Cale, brought out his new P-47 Thunderbolt. It is a Hangar 9 kit with
lots of nice details. It has a Zenoah G-38 for power up front. The
engine was ran for the first time on Friday in hopes of flying the
airplane with Steve's son in town, but the battery went dead before we
had that opportunity. So, a few of us went up to MMRCA's flying field,
where Steve is also a member, to test fly the airplane up there. It went
great despite the first flight having the engine a tad too rich. When
the retracts go up into the wing, it was a thing of beauty. The plane
eats up a ton of sky and it is fast to boot. Shaun Zimmerman took his
Sig Rascal 110 and Kenny Johnson took his U-Can-Do to fly up there as
well. Again, it was a very windy day, but luckily the wind was down the
runway or it would have spoiled the fun altogether. Now we're just
hoping and waiting for an early Spring to do it all again! |
