JCRC: New Year's Day Fun-Fly
We were ready to fly "no-matter-what-the-weather"
but we lucked out with a Spring-like day and temperatures in the
60's on January 1, 2005! We appreciate all who attended, especially
Charla Rex who brought out a pan of incredible brownies!
Entertainment was reluctantly provided by Shaun Zimmerman who
inadvertently stuck a new airplane in the top of a tree on it's very
first flight! See how some of our members started out their New Year
2005 by clicking
here or on the photo.

KCRC: Annual Swap Meet
The annual frozen exodus took place on Saturday,
January
22, 2005. In addition to being very cold, it was extremely windy,
but that misery was soon forgotten once our members went inside and started
looking for bargains. Many were found, some got away, but it was a
good time. Click
here or on the photo to view some photos of the event.

YMCA: Indoor Electric Fly-in Events
Thanks
to the efforts of club member, Stacy Gillmore, one of the highlights
of this year was the beginning of the
YMCA Indoor Electric Fly-in
sessions. The Firley YMCA located on Ellis Blvd. in Jefferson City has four
indoor tennis court that make up one of the nicest indoor flying
venues in the entire state of Missouri! Click
here to view the .PDF Flyer about the event. With the nets & wires
removed it turns into a wide-open space for climate-controlled
indoor flying! Events were held on these dates;

2005 JCRC:
Miller Flying Field New Taxiways Exciting
improvements took place in March 2005 at the JCRC / Miller Flying Field!! Three
new 8 feet wide taxiways were constructed on the south end of
the runway where the flight line had been setup to help avoid
the problem of flying over the new houses. Click
here to view photos of the construction provided
under the supervision of Parks &
Recreations. Thank-you P&R! |

France: Airbus A380 First Flight
April
27, 2005. World's
Largest Airliner, the Airbus
A380 completes maiden flight! It weighs a mere 380 tons (empty)
yet took off with ease as the surprisingly quiet engines pushed the
new 555 to 853 seating capacity Superjumbo up for a four hour
flight. It has a wingspan of 262 feet and a fuel capacity of 81,900
gallons of fuel! It is the culmination of 11 years and $13 Billion,
a crew of six handled the honors taking off and landing at the
Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in France. Click here to see other photos
of the mammoth aircraft.

MMRCA: Spring Fly-In
The
Mid-Missouri Radio Control Association in Columbia, Missouri, held their
annual Spring Fly-In on Saturday, May 14th. Despite a strong cross-wind, the
level of fun and camaraderie was high and those who went had a good time. Click

JCRC: Cub Scout Day Camp
JCRC members Chris Byrd and Shaun Zimmerman were asked to give an R/C
Flight Demonstration for the 300+ Cub Scouts and their Leaders at the
Fairgrounds as part of the Cub Scout Day Camp held on Tuesday, June 14th.
We've never had a more appreciative audience and even though the winds
(apparently left over from Hurricane Arlene) were
blowing around 30 M.P.H., we had three successful flights. Byrd flew his
gas-powered Bergen Helicopter and Zimmerman flew his Sig LT-40 and no one
has ever received so much applause for a simple loop with a Trainer prior to
this event! Click

LORCS: Summer Fly-In
The
Lake Ozark Radio Control Society of Eldon, Missouri, held
their Summer Fly-In and Swap Meet on Sunday, June 5th. Keep with
this year's theme of strong winds, but at least in this case they
were down the runway! A great time was had visiting - and watching
Dave McDonald fly! Click

SIG Fly-in: Montezuma, IA
Some of our very own members made the long trip up to
Montezuma, Iowa, to attend the annual Sig Manufacturing Fly-in held
in the hometown of the R/C plant. All said they'd do it again next
year. Click
here or on the photo above to view photos provided by Rick Poire
and read about a little trick that they played on fellow JCRC
member, Stacy Gillmore.

MMRCA: Summer Sizzler Fly-In
The
Mid-Missouri Radio Control Association in Columbia, Missouri, held their
annual Summer Sizzler Fly-In on Saturday, July 17th. The winds that plagued
us early in the year were long gone, but an intense heat took its place.
Gratefully MMRCA kept us well hydrated and fed. Some beautiful airplanes
were on hand, both big and small. Another outstanding event. Click

JCRC: 7th Annual Float Fly
Click
here or on the photos to view a report and photos about JCRC's
Premier event for 2005 . Despite the heat we held our event on Saturday, July 23rd
and the overall consensus indicates that the event exceeded the
expectations of most and was a success! Our sincerest thanks to all
who attended or helped to make this event so much fun. The
spectators were great, the visiting pilots were wonderful, the flying was a
beautiful mixture of flight and water - if it had only been 25
degrees cooler it could have been close to perfect. The photo at left is
Jim Lanzendorf's 1/3 scale Balsa USA
Cub on floats during the event.

LORCS: A Perfect Sunday
While
some may consider the 'Perfect Sundae' to be a frozen dairy treat
from their local ice cream parlor, Sunday, August 7th, turned out to
be just as sweet as a bowl full of frozen custard. It was one of
those rare afternoons, in Missouri, when health, weather and
opportunity came together in a magical combination for those who
were able to participate; something that only happens about five
times per year. No, it wasn't a scheduled fly-in or a "Pro
Bro" event, but it looked like one! Several JCRC pilots and
others gathered at the LORCS
flying field for a very enjoyable flying session without the worries
of screaming neighbors. Click here or on the photo to view the
activities of a memorable day.

JCRC: August "Flying" Club Meeting
An
unusually high number of members and spectators showed up on Tuesday, August
9th, 2005, for the monthly Club Meeting held at the Miller Flying Field. It
was great to have so many in attendance. Of course with the nice, yet hot
weather, the 'talking' part of the meeting was kept to a minimum so that
more time would be available to fly and there were many flights of some very
nice R/C aircraft. Click
here or on the photos to view a special section of photos taken during
the evening, along with a report about the activities.

JCRC: Sunday Flying at its best
On
Sunday, August 28th, an
unusually high number of pilots with new airplanes came out to the
JCRC Miller Flying Field to enjoy the almost perfect weather (still a little
hot). We ended up with enough nice photos to create a separate page. Click

LORCS: Fall Fly-In / Swap Meet
The
LORCS
event was held on Sunday, September 11, at their field in
Eldon! We considered it one of the best events held in Eldon in
recent memory with a count of over 110 airplanes on hand! Great food, good friends and lots of flying. No
incidents (Pizza Boxes don't count!). We
have posted, for your viewing pleasure, three pages of photos of the
LORCS Fall Fly-In, click here to view them!

MMRCA: Chili Dog Fun Fly
Troy
Hamm, President of the Columbia R/C Club did it again! He selected a
day with absolutely perfect weather! The rest of the guys and gals
from Columbia came through with wonderful food and hospitality. The
only complaint that anyone could possibly have is that the day was
simply too short. There were reportedly over 150 airplanes on hand,
but
it wasn't at all difficult to get a turn on your frequency. The food
was so good that the Columbia members seemed to wish that it
wouldn't all get eaten so that they could take home the leftovers.
Click here to view photos of some of the airplanes on hand.

JCRC: Fall Fun Fly
Stacy
Gillmore was kind enough to provide us with some great photos of
JCRC's Fall event. Held on Saturday, October 22nd at the JCRC Miller
Flying Field. Despite not-even-close-to-perfect conditions, several
visitors and members attended and flew their airplanes. Click

JCRC: St. Joseph Elementary R/C Demo
On
the afternoon of November 8th, 2005, we were asked to give an R/C
Demonstration to over 80 students and teachers from the St. Joseph
Elementary School in Jefferson City. We are willing to accept any
good excuse to go flying, but all of us felt really good about
participating in this event. It was great fun for all of us. Click

JCRC: Condolences
We
were saddened to receive the news that Debbie
Anderson, the wife of JCRC member Mike Anderson, had passed away on Monday, December
12. Our
thoughts and prayers are with you Mike. Debbie unceasingly worked to
support the American Cancer Society's Relay-For-Life event where she
was honored in June 2005 (photo at left was from that event) for
raising over $1500 in contributions. Her positive attitude in the
face of adversity was inspiring to all that had the pleasure to meet
her. She and Mike
were constantly smiling and she accompanied him to the flying field
and float fly location many times. She will be missed by all of us
at JCRC. Donations were
suggested to the American Cancer Society.

December Meeting:
It was the Most Special Meeting of the year!
Without
a doubt, the December Christmas Party was by far the most memorable
meeting of the year! Several JCRC members and their spouses enjoyed
the hospitality of Dr. Jim & Melba Crago on Tuesday, December
13th. It was obvious that both did lots of work to get ready for
this Holiday gathering and everyone commented on the details and preparation
that Melba went through in preparing the food items. It was amazing,
delicious and should have been featured in a magazine! Click
here to view photos of this wonderful event. Those who attended are already looking
forward to next year's party!
