No, this wasn't a fly-in, even though it may have looked like one, it wasn't a "Pro Bro" (Profile Brotherhood) or any other kind of a scheduled event; it was just one of those lucky-five-days-per-year that turn out perfect for flying and when the conditions are right, you can bet that the flying field will fill up with pilots anxious to fly. In this case a few of us from JCRC went down to Eldon to join the guys of LORCS for some flying at a site where you don't have to worry about being yelled at by the neighbors, you just have to watch out for people breaking Rule # 9! (A.M.A. Safety Code) Fact is, this was going to be the first flight of Tom Gillmore's new Katana Profile 3-D airplane and who better to test fly one of these hot-rods than Dave McDonald? Well, no one! Dave is THE MAN in these parts when it comes to controlling an out-of-control model airplane, especially one that Dave is very comfortable flying because he already owns two of the exact same airplane and many other models that are similar. Each airplane represents a large investment of money and those of us who care do our best to assure success. After all, Tom wants to fly his new plane, not watch it end up as a pile of plastic covering & balsa. So they wisely asked Dave for his assistance and everything went flawlessly and all of us are grateful for Dave's unselfish assistance. There were several pilots at the field and rarely was there less than one plane in the air at any given time. I don't remember all of the names of the guys from LORCS, but the usual participants were there; obviously Dave McDonald (the reason we went in the first place), Daniel Smith, former JCRC member and good friend, Kenny Marshall, our new friend Joe Kirkpatrick, and forgive me, others with names that my memory has wiped clean. From JCRC, Rick Poire went down before any of the others arrived, so unfortunately and sadly we missed him, after that Stacy & Tom Gillmore, Dr. Jim Crago and I (Shaun Zimmerman) went down. I just went to take pictures and to get out of the house for a little while. The Gillmore's and Jim, however, took several planes and flew until it was just too dark to see. We are certainly grateful for the hospitality that is always shown by members of LORCS every time we go down there. Please feel free to sort through the nearly 75 photographs of mostly happy men and their flying machines who were blessed by God with a perfect evening of beautiful blue skies, white puffy clouds and light winds to freely participate in a hobby that each of us dearly loves. As stated in other locations throughout the JCRC website these photos may be freely downloaded and enjoyed for personal use by the pilots who are in or own the airplanes pictured, but I respectfully ask that none of these pictures be used on any other website or for any commercial purpose without my written permission. Comments and inquiries may be sent to info@jcrc.com. Thanks! Remember, this report and the photo captions may yet be a work in progress, it was last updated 08/18/2005. |
