Sig Fly-In 2005 - Montezuma, Iowa

JCRC Members Rick Poire, Richard Poire, Jim Crago and Paul Pennington were among those who were fortunate enough to enjoy the 2005 Sig Fly-in, held annually in Montezuma, Iowa, the hometown of R/C manufacturer Sig Aircraft. All reported having a wonderful time in perfect weather at a beautiful flying facility. It doesn't get much better than that, does it guys?!

All of the guys who went have said over and over that they plan on attending again next year, hopefully more of us will be able to join them. Be sure to dust off your Kadet's, Rascal's, LT-40's or Mayhem's to fit in with the rest of the Sig aircraft on hand!

These photos were provided to us by Rick Poire. Thanks Rick!

Since boys will be boys; the ones attending the Sig Fly-In decided to have a little fun with fellow club member and friend, Stacy Gillmore. At the time of the Sig Fly-In, Stacy was enthusiastically looking to own one of Sig's new airplanes, the 3-D Mayhem ARF. He asked the guys to watch out for a good deal on one and he would pay them to bring it back. Rick and the others found that there weren't any spectacular deals on the plane, but there were several Mayhem's flying on site so the boys asked the guy next to them on the flightline if Rick could pose with his airplane as if Rick had won it as part of a raffle. All of us in JCRC know that Rick has an enchanted way of winning something in nearly every raffle that he enters, not to mention an incredible ability to find good deals on other R/C items that he purchases. So that was part of the setup, Rick posed with the airplane and they wanted to make Stacy think that he had won the Mayhem in a raffle. Additionally, the boys asked this nice lady who was there selling R/C goods to fake a picture showing a made-up price on the Sig Mayhem. Prior to them leaving, Stacy asked Rick to pick up a Mayhem for him if they were for sale at or below a certain price. So they had this woman fake a sign and stick in on the Mayhem box for this fake picture. Great idea, but after seeing the faked picture, we knew the price was way too low and that Stacy, being a very smart guy, would see right through that scam, plus she still had the old price tag in her other hand. Enter PhotoShop! With a little touch-up here and there, adding some authentic looking type and raising the price up to a believable, yet low price, Stacy bought into the scam for a couple of hours. Stacy, if we didn't love you, we wouldn't torment you! :-)

Rick reports that this was possibly the last photo ever of this P-47, it was demolished after take-off with the aileron servo reversed! DOH!
