Kids Fest 2004: JCRC Exhibit

JCRC was invited to participate in the 2004 Kids Fest, where young children across Mid-Missouri came to the Washington Park Ice Arena to see a spectacular event that celebrates children and the family through entertainment, games, education and more - all free of charge! Click here to see our members taking part in this event.

2004 IMAA Rally of Giants: Muncie, IN

The Biggest and Baddest R/C airplanes in the nation gather  for this annual event! Held at a different location every year, but the event is the same - big & bold! To fly at an IMAA event, an airplane needs to have a minimum wingspan of 80 inches and this is the IMAA's crowning event for the year, so most of these planes had no problem qualifying! 2004 Extravaganza: Killed by Red Tape!

As the joke goes; "We're from the Government, we're here to help..."

As we celebrated the Fourth of July 2004 and the  Independence that it represents, we want to point out that among our membership we are fortunate to have at least one current member of the Armed Forces, as well as several veterans to whom we'd like to extend our heart-felt appreciation for working to maintain our freedom. JCRC Club Treasurer, Chris Wilson, is a Sergeant in the 70th Troop Command Unit and he represented his unit in the Opening Ceremony of Jefferson City's "Salute To America" celebration. Great job Chris!

2004 JCRC Float-Fly: Fun on the waters of Binder Lake

Mike Anderson of HobbyTown USA of Columbia, Missouri was kind enough to share a few of the photos that he took of this event attended by a dozen pilots.

2004 JCRC "Dog Days of Summer Weenie-Roasted Fly-In": Cool Summer Fun at Miller Flying Field

Held on Saturday, August 14th, 2004. We had unusually cool August weather, food and fun - in other words, a near-perfect summer event! There was a 'pre-contest' to help us give the event a name. JCRC Club President John Dussold picked the entry submitted by JCRC Club President John Dussold! Other submissions included;

  • The "FWAIN" Event (Fun-fly Without An Interesting Name)
  • The "JCRC 21st Birthday Bash" (Club formed in 1983)
  • The "JCRC Flying Weenie and French Fry Fly Off"

The graphic for the event was laboriously designed by Chris Byrd. Flying started around 10 A.M. and didn't end until almost 7 P.M. We had Hot Dogs & Hamburgers and everyone brought a dish or dessert to share. Special thanks goes to Sonya & Chris Byrd for all their help in getting the food bought and prepared, as well as Charla & Wayne Rex for their assistance. In 2004, we received an Emergency Safety Notice from the Academy of Model Aeronautics about the dangers of using Li-Poly Batteries, click here for more details.

2004 Ozark Mountain Jets: Scale Jets at their best

JCRC member Gordon McEntire was able to attend two premier R/C events in Missouri - the Ozark Mountain Jets Rally held in Sullivan, Missouri, as well as the Taylor, Missouri R/C Fly-in to benefit MDA. Click on the photo of the jet to view the photos he took.

2004 Sedalia R/C Flyers Fly-In: Perfect Day for Fall Flying at the Fairgrounds

On an absolutely perfect Saturday on October 2, 2004, several JCRC members attended the Sedalia R/C Flyers Fly-in held on a nicely groomed grass runway on the State Fairgrounds. About 30 pilots took part in the event and spectators came and went all day long. A full-scale ultralight landed on-site and a 1/3 scale Super Stearman with a genuine 5 cylinder radial engine definitely stopped the show! Everyone who attended had a great time!

October 14, 2004, Jefferson City: Full-scale CRJ2 Jetliner crashes

On Thursday evening, around 10:15 P.M, on October 14, 2004, a 50-seat CRJ2 belonging to Pinnacle Airlines crashed near Hutton Lane on the east side of Jefferson City. Both pilots, Captain Jesse Rhodes and First Officer Richard Peter Cesarzs, were killed in the crash. They were the only occupants of the aircraft and it was nothing short of miraculous that they were able to avoid directly hitting any homes in the residential area where the plane went down. Our condolences to their families & fellow employees. Click here or on the photo of the CRJ2 for further details and photos.

2004 Mid-Missouri R/C Association: Fall Fly-In

The Autumn winds tried to ruin the event, but persistent and dedicated flyers (plus an enormous pot full of already cooked chili) kept the event from failing and in the end we had another one of the greatest flying days of the year. Scheduled for Saturday, October 23 and extended through Sunday, October 24 because of the very strong winds that plagued everyone who showed up for the event on Saturday. Sunday is when most of the JCRC members participated and it was great to be among such a wonderful group of pilots and friends. Click here or on the photo of the fabulous P-40 to view more photos.

2004 YMCA: Indoor Flying Test

Stacy Gillmore spearheaded the effort to hold an indoor flying event inside the Jefferson City YMCA. We are grateful for all that he has done to make his vision a reality. Click here or on the photo to read about the results and to see some photos of the attempt to acquire an indoor flying venue

2004: JCRC Christmas Party

What a party!! Our deepest gratitude goes out to Rick & Debbie Poire for hosting the 2004 JCRC Christmas party in their beautifully decorated home. Some members who had never been to the Poire residence previously stated that they simply followed the glow of the lights on the house to find it. Once inside everyone was amazed by all the beautiful decorations and things hanging off the walls (even in Rick's Workshop)! The food was wonderful. Click here or on the Snoopy Christmas drawing to view photos of the party.
