2004 MMRCA - Columbia Fly-In

This event was scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 23, 2004. Initially it looked like rain might be a factor, but in the end it was just the wind that made flying difficult on Saturday. Considering the forecast, the MMRCA members decided to extend the event to both Saturday and Sunday, October 24th. The brave (or crazy) made it out to fly on Saturday in some very high cross-winds, but Sunday turned out to be very close to perfect. There were winds, but it was consistent (not gusty) and it was right down the runway, blowing out of the south, which really made it a lot of fun to fly on Sunday. There were 45 pilots from all over Mid-Missouri that signed up to fly during the two day event. The food was great, featuring an enormous pot of chili used to smother grill-cooked hot dogs. Good friends got together to have a great time, flying some beautiful model airplanes and we flew until it was just too dark to see. The door prize was graciously donated by Mike Anderson of HobbyTown USA. Thanks Mike! It was a Power Line Edge 540 3-D Profile kit and our very own 2004/2005 JCRC President, John Dussold was the lucky name drawn out of the hat! He said that he was grateful that Rick Poire didn't attend the event, thus allowing someone else to win! :-) Several other JCRC members attended the event and all were rewarded with a great day of abundant flying and a memorable Fly-In to finish out this year's main flying season. Check out the pictures below, all taken by Shaun Zimmerman. Click on the thumbnails to view larger versions of each if you'd like.

Thanks to MMRCA for sponsoring such a great event!
