KCRC Swap Meet: JCRC members make annual frozen exodus to K.C.

Nine total members of the JCRC attended the KCRC Swap Meet held on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at the Ararat Shriner's Temple in Kansas City. Eight members went together in a caravan with Rick Taylor and Brian Nutt being kind enough to drive and pull trailers full of R/C stuff to sell and later bring back the new stuff.

The weather started out questionable as it appeared we were in for some snow, but it cleared out and we just had to deal with the extreme cold. We had a nice buffet-style breakfast in Concordia and enjoyed a wide variety of foods, everything was good, except maybe for the hash...

The parking lot was already full when we arrived at the swap meet location to unload our stuff. It seemed like a bunch of sharks on a feeding frenzy as people were moving all over selling items as the tables were still being set up.

Many items were sold and the event was full of people from all over Mid-America during the entire five hours that it was open. JCRC member Dan Adams of Columbia stopped by to say, "Hello" as well.

After the event everyone was pretty well worn out after all that wheeling and dealing, so the vehicles were fueled back up and we stopped at a Denny's near the Temple location to enjoy a late lunch. Attending the event were JCRC members Rick Taylor, Marty Bullard, Tom Copeland, Jim Sander, Gordon DeBroeck, Brian Nutt, Rick Poire and Shaun Zimmerman. All that went appeared to have a great time. There is another swap meet coming up soon in Joplin, Missouri, check back for more details and whether or not JCRC will have another caravan down there. As always, if you click on any of the thumbnail images above you will be shown a larger version of the photo.

JCRC's Main Event: Extravaganza 2003

The 2003 Extravaganza may very well turn out to be the last event of this kind in Jefferson City due to new F.A.A. regulations. This final show was dedicated to the memory of those brave astronauts who died in the Space Shuttle tragedy. Click on the logo to view photos of the event.

JCRC Miller Flying Field: Field Work Day

I would like to thank all of the JCRC Members who make it so easy for me to be President of this Club. The Pavilion has been repaired, the bleachers have been repaired, new flying stands have been built and setup in the pit area. The field looks absolutely outstanding - THANKS TO EVERYONE who came out to help and to those who continue to help maintain the field in great condition!!

Several of our members helped at the Mexico, Missouri, D.A.R.E. activity on October 11th. Click on the D.A.R.E. logo to view photos & digital video clips of this wonderful event. There was a tremendous turn-out for the event and even with 3 to 5 trainer airplanes in the air all the time there wasn't enough time to get to all the kids, but we tried and all who stuck around had a chance to try their hand at R/C flying. Thanks again to all who helped out!

Special Report: JCRC Fall Fun-Fly 2003

JCRC Fall Fun-fly was held on  Sunday, October 26!! We held out for as long as we could hoping that we would be able to have it on Saturday and for a brief moment it looked possible, then another lightning flash, thunder and more rain - therefore it was held on Sunday. It was significantly colder and many complained about being frozen, but it wasn't raining, burgers were grilled and people were flying!
